Well, we’ve migrated to WordPress and the Summer of Gaming has ended. This gives me a chance to talk about Good Video Games before the Nintendo Direct.
First up: BIG BOY BOXING.
The team at Soupmasters have done it. They (along with another really cool game called Sock It) have single-handedly invented the modern Punch-Out!!-like. Just as Pizza Tower reinvented the gameplay of Wario Land, Big Boy Boxing reinvented the gameplay of Punch-Out!!. Just like in Punch-Out!!, you play as a rookie boxer, climbing up the ranks alongside your coach Hank. The game, however, sports a smoothly-animated pixel art style inspired by 2017’s indie darling Cuphead, plus a funky chiptune EDM soundtrack and many quality-of-life improvements. It truly is the new Punch-Out!! we’ve wanted since the Wii era in all but name.
